Snatchin’ up bags
Poppin’ dem tags
Made you buy it all cuz I really want to brag
I throw fits but pretty please don’t judge me
Act this way cuz my poppa never hugged me
Give you pouty lips
Don’t give me no tissues
Give me all I want
That will really fix my issues
Everywhere we go
Gotta do it first class
If we flyin’ coach
Then you can go stag
But I’m acting like I’m 10
Here’s my wish list
Daddy get me all of dem
Please please please
Anit to proud to beg
It’s Friday so I know you getting’ paid
I make money too but that I want to save
The hotter I get
The cooler you look
If your accounts on freeze
Then I really got to book
Listen to the hook
♫“My True Religion is money, check out the pant seams” ♫
If this generation worships money the way they appear to from watching a variety ratched televisions shows and the latest hits on the radio, then why do they hate so hard on the people who have it? Why does a billion dollars in the bank equate to a billion haters? Scripturally 1 Timothy 6:10 says:
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
The key word in this verse to me is Love. Many get this confused and believe that money in itself is evil but it is actually determined by the character of the person who possesses it. To have a love for money in this verse means to have a wrong relationship with it. A person who has a wrong relationship with money will put it in first place above the things that truly matter in life and will seek after it in shady ways.
♫ “If you don’t like me then you must hate money” ♫
As long as a person’s character is right there is really no reason to hate when you see them shining. Instead ask them what it took to get them there and adjust yourself accordingly to find your path. Everyone has a talent, gift or an ability that they can use to put money in their pocket. Don’t hate on me when you look up and see me draped up in Jacob. Don’t hate on me when I’m dripped out in diamonds. Don’t hate on me when you see me doing all the things you want to do. Don’t hate on me when you see a physical manifestation of the blessing on my life. Some would say it must be your hard work or I knew the right people but they would only be partially right. My answer would simply be that I did what I believed God was telling me to do.
On that day, if you don’t like me it is because you must also hate women with ambitions greater than being a basketball wife. If you don’t like me, you must hate people who have the audacity to dream bigger than rims. If you don’t like me, then you must hate people who are courageous enough to believe that they can heal millions with their words if they would only listen. If you don’t like me, then you must hate people who are striving to reach their full potential instead of being content with mediocrity. You will hate me even more when you discover that I don’t even do it for the money, I do it for the love of it.
♫“It started out a boy like Hugh Grant, Now I’m a young man doin’ things you can’t”♫
This article was inspired by Drake’s Must Hate Money record off of his Comeback season mixtape. Drake wears his heart on his sleeve but he stands out to me not for what he wears but because he is not afraid to talk about more than his latest purchases. It may not reflect in this song but if you look at his complete body of work you will get the point. He doesn’t have to talk about money all the time because he looks like wealth. He isn’t flashy but focused. No gimmicks necessary. The Young Money front runner will be around for years to come. How could you not like this guy when his verses make him so easy to love.
D.R. Final Thoughts:
Money is very necessary and makes life easier in a lot of ways but you have to remember that it can not fill you, heal you, love you back, or tuck you in at night. It can only provide temporary relief for shopaholics who use retail therapy to cope with their day to day lives. I’m reminded of something my pastor would say all the time “What is a closet full of fly clothes if there is no one around to tell you how good you look? What is a million dollars in the bank if you’re poor in health?” I encourage you to keep first things first and money in its proper place.
Scripture Reference: Matthew 6:24
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
